What is the first game that you can remember playing, and how old were you? Use your own personal definition of what you would count as a game (e.g. patty cake or peek-a-boo or tic-tac-toe are all fine but not very interesting). Any kind of game is fair game for this one.

The first board game that I remember playing was Scrabble Junior. Ostensibly, the goal of Scrabble Junior is to form the words that are already printed on the board, but we felt that to be overly limiting, and always ignored that objective in favor of playing what was essentially regular Scrabble without any point multipliers.

The first video game that I remember ever playing was Outlaw for the Atari 2600, but the first that I ever actually played frequently was Frostbite. We were a little bit behind the technology curve, as the Super Nintendo and Genesis had already become predominant by that time.

I think my first board games were Snakes and Ladders and various card games at around ages four or five.

My first ever game played on a computer was the Lemonade Game on the Apple ][ at school.

When I got my own first computer (a BBC Micro Model B), the first game I grabbed was Planetoid which was a brilliant Defender clone....and then of course Elite.

Probably either Starquake or Cookie for the ZX Spectrum when I was very young, maybe 5-7 years old?

ncsnipes on the Novel network in high school. I'm sure there were other games I saw like Super Mario but ncsnipes is the first I spent any time playing.

I think checkers was probably my first "real" game, as in not something made up or intangible. I was 4 or 5.

My first RPG was D&D, I was 9. I learned backgammon when I was in 5th grade, so I guess I was 10. (I could do this all night.)

My first wargame was Warzone, once, then Warhammer shortly later.

hmm.... First "game" was probably some outdoor one, really. Hide'n'Seek maybe. I started baseball pretty early as well. As for board games, Chutes & Ladders, Candy Land, Monopoly Jr.... We had so many. First video game was most likely Super Mario Brothers, or possibly Duck Hunt or Excite Bike.

I remember we had a decent collection of family games like Monopoly and Life growing up. My dad was a wargamer and I started gaming with him playing more "gamer" games when I was 8. The first one I remember playing at this age was Car Wars, which I fell in love with. I also played D&D in grade school during recess, probably starting in about 3rd or 4th grade, so I guess I was 8 or 9 then. We also had an Atari 2600 for video games, the first of which was Combat, and an Apple II where I played games like Eamon (rogue-like), Rigel (3D tank battle), and Wolfenstein (not 3D, but very fun).

First off, when I was little, I remember playing a lot of cards. War tended to be the one I played the most.

As to my first video game, I started out late, making my first game The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons on Game Boy Color.

This question brought back memories - Beebmunch and Invaders from IJK Software on the BBC Micro were the first two games that I got hold of.

It took a quick google to actually find out the name of Beebmunch and the reviews online reminded me how bad it actually was although at the time it seemed amazing. Who noticed the dodgy collision and flickering animation?!

My first computer game was "The Game of Robot" on a 8088 with 8MHz and "Tetris" on the same maschine.

A game in RL I can remember (there must be earlier ones though) beside hide-and-seek and so on was playing auto cards with my brother or friends.

I'm sure I played checkers or connect four, but believe it or not the first game I remember playing was Super Mario Bros 3. I remember watching my mom and dad play Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Bros 2 but I did not play them.

One night me and my mom left the house late at night and drove 30 minutes to the nearest Service Merchandise to get their last copy of Super Mario Bros 3. I watched my mom play it for hours until I fell asleep and then the next night she taught me how to play the game. It has to be my earliest memory I can remember fairly well.

The first board game was probably something like Chutes N Ladders, but the first "Gamer" type boardgame I remember playing was Dungeon!

Out Run in the sit-down arcade cabinet as a kid on holiday. Games and cars in one go - I was past myself with excitement.

I played the very first game as simple Tennis (mostly 8 bit game) I don't remember the exact name. But yes, the next was Super Mario Bros on Nintendo game console. On PC, I played Prince of Persia.

Very first board game is difficult to remember but mostly it was Snakes and Ladders (popular kids' game in India) and then the Business (modeled after Monopoly).
